Interesting reading (the legend) jinxed comments on kumb. In short it's all fun & games, the leak to the press and subsequent numbers mentioned are all negotiating techniques.

All taken with a pinch of pink Himalayan salt of course,

Dietrich Mateschitz is a sales and marketing colossus. He has become one of the richest men in the world by selling the products of others.

Just what we need, more marketing bollocks for us 'customers'. Karren Brady's gusset must be quivering at the prospect.

Yes, they did vote for it. Gold was actually one of the few who admitted it.

He said, "It's not a salary cap, it's a restraint on over-spending. It's not a cap - it's a restraint. If clubs increase their revenues then they can increase their spending.

"We have got restraint, that's the important thing. What's driving the whole thing is we've got to avoid another Portsmouth.''

Hmm wonder whether Gold and Sullivan voted for it .....

Re: Breaking: West Ham are being targeted by drinks giants Red Bull for a shock £200m takeover.
The financial fair play thing was completely mis-named. They never had any intention of making it a more level playing ground.

All they wanted was to avoid Leeds type scenarios where a club overextends itself aiming for the big money of the Champions League and then face possible bankruptcy if it goes tits up.

That's why they don't make a big fuss when clubs with real financial backing like Man City circumvent the rules. No doubt it would be the same for us if we had richer owners than the current lot.

Agreed I think the only chance is to legally challenge it somehow. Or get the premier league to abandon it.

Alex...
That's not exactly FAIR. is it...

Needs sorting out...restrictive practice...Id say...

One set of rules for the rich...a lesser set for the poor...haha...

Betcha many specialist lawyers could take that on...

Not true - the fair play limits didn't come in until later. Now the limits exist, they simply couldn't do it anywhere near as easily. There are some provisions for us raising our wage bill by more than £4-7m each year based on increased revenue, but they are complicated and I think they have limitations too.

We just can't do now what Chelsea and Man City did - that's the point.

Spool

How did they get those high Fair Play limits...

Obviously by getting increased Revenues...including lucrative big sponsorship money...

But the top clubs already have the higher fair play limit, so they don't have that problem. We do, and transfer funds alone cannot solve that.

Even with those extra millions, how would you overcome our current fair play wage cap?

13R we opened the new stadium in the summer...

It's now December, are we have supposed to made all this additional revenue and spent it by now?

Or is it more likely that we'll realise the full potential of the move financially over a period of years?

Only way to compete with big 4/6...

Get massive and somewhat dodgy endorsements and sponsorship deals like Man City...ManU...Chelsea...

We think in terms of s few million quid...

They are hundreds of millions a year...thus their spending power is much higher...

Re: Breaking: West Ham are being targeted by drinks giants Red Bull for a shock £200m takeover.
The bigger ground brings in about £10m extra per season, which is probably about how much Zaza and Tore will have cost us this year. There's no way that paltry amount would ever have seen us compete for the top 4.

From what I remember though they said something along the lines of getting into the CL within a few years of moving stadiums so they probably meant after they'd sold up.

Re: Breaking: West Ham are being targeted by drinks giants Red Bull for a shock £200m takeover.
Yes but we now have 52k ST holders and the 2nd biggest ground in the UK. We were moved there on the promise of more revenue and a higher profile which would make us a bigger club challenging for honours inc the CL.
